Most precision rifle shooters prefer to have their scopes “sighted in” for 100 yards (100 yard zero). Hunters frequently like a 200 yard zero.

To sight your scope in, decide at what distance you want the bullet to impact exactly where the scope crosshairs are pointed. Sighting in at 100 yards requires the least math, but if you are sighting in today at a target that is 25 yards away – this app will be very helpful!

You should always start at 25 yards when a scope has just been mounted. OK, so now your target is up and you are ready to fire 3 shots aiming at the 25 yard bullseye. If you are planning on a 100 yard zero, you will expect the 25 yard group to be about 1.5 to 2 inches low. If you are sighting in for a 200 yard zero, at 25 yards the group should form at about the bullseye.
