New World Record – Longest Airgun Hit

2+ Kilometers. A Beer Can Array. Earned Respect.

In extreme long range shooting, respect is earned the hard way. Not with talk. Not with hype. It is built shot by shot, correction by correction, in wind that does not care about your plans.

A team led by Ondrej Plachy has pushed the boundary further than ever before, setting a new world record by scoring a hit with a PCP airgun at 2+ kilometers — approximately 2,242 yards (about 1.27 miles) — on a beer can array. Late February 2026.

The Target

This was not a single easy, high-contrast plate. It was a beer can array measuring approximately 1.85 MOA at the record distance. At 2 kilometers, that is a tiny aiming reference in a world where small changes become large misses.

The Conditions

The wind was gusting and inconsistent. At times it was head-on; other moments it shifted or intensified. Impacts walked long, then short, then meters off to one side. Each shot demanded real-time elevation and wind corrections. This is the discipline ELR shooters respect — reading dust, interpreting impact signatures, adjusting, and sending again without ego.

The Moment & Murphy’s Law

The highly visible, record-setting hit was actually their second strike on the target, thanks to a classic case of Murphy’s Law.

As Plachy recounted: “We actually hit the target relatively early… There was less than a 1% chance of hitting the target without hitting a beer can, and that is exactly the spot we managed to hit.”

The spotters heard the impact that morning but didn’t think to check behind the target for a pass-through. The hit landed just below the crossbar, rendering it completely invisible from the firing line. Plachy only discovered the hidden impact later while dismantling the target. Reviewing the video, he found the exact moment the spotters had called a hit.

“I can see dust kicking up from the side, precisely behind the target, and the angle shows that the projectile could not have overshot,” Plachy noted. “The camera facing directly to the target did not record the dust impact because it was exactly perpendicular directly behind the target. Simply classic Murphy’s law: if something can go wrong, no matter how unlikely, it will happen.”

Disbelief set in once he got the target back. “When I saw that hole in the target, I was telling myself at home, ‘No, that didn’t happen.’ I started aligning the cans, and that hole lined up absolutely perfectly. Yes, it happened.”

Despite the frustration of the hidden first hit, the team’s persistence paid off. After maintaining their massive 249 mRad elevation hold and calling multiple wind corrections, another shot produced a different signature—a distinct impact sound and visible confirmation on the array. The team moved forward to verify, and the can showed clear evidence of a strike.

“In the end, however, I was glad that we kept shooting and achieved a second hit—this time clearly visible—even from a distance of 2 km,” Plachy concluded. History made.

Why This Matters

This was not brute force. A 100gr projectile traveling 284 m/s does not forgive mistakes at 2 kilometers. This was wind reading, patience, and execution. Nový světový rekord – Nejdelší zásah vzduchovkou

2+ kilometry. Sestava pivních plechovek. Zasloužený respekt.

V extrémní střelbě na dlouhé vzdálenosti (ELR) se respekt získává těžce. Ne řečmi. Ne humbukem. Buduje se ránu za ranou, korekci za korekcí, ve větru, který se nestará o vaše plány.

Tým, který vedl Ondřej Plachý, posunul hranice dále než kdy předtím a vytvořil nový světový rekord, když zasáhl sestavu pivních plechovek z PCP vzduchovky na vzdálenost přes 2 kilometry — přibližně 2 242 yardů (asi 1,27 mil). Konec února 2026.

Cíl

Nebyl to jediný, snadno zasažitelný a vysoce kontrastní terč. Byla to sestava pivních plechovek měřící zhruba 1,85 MOA na rekordní vzdálenost. Na 2 kilometry je to nepatrný záchytný bod ve světě, kde se malé změny stávají velkými chybami.

Podmínky

Vítr byl nárazový a nestálý. Někdy foukal zepředu, jindy se stáčel nebo zesiloval. Zásahy dopadaly daleko, pak blízko, pak metry stranou. Každý výstřel vyžadoval korekce náměru a větru v reálném čase. To je disciplína, kterou střelci ELR respektují — čtení prachu, interpretace stop po dopadu, úpravy a další výstřely bez ega.

Ten okamžik a Murphyho zákony

Vysoce viditelný, rekordní zásah byl ve skutečnosti až druhým zásahem terče, a to díky klasickému případu Murphyho zákonů.

Jak vyprávěl Plachý: „Ve skutečnosti jsme cíl zasáhli poměrně brzy… Byla tam méně než 1% šance, že trefíme terč a přitom nezasáhneme žádnou pivní plechovku, a přesně to místo jsme dokázali trefit.“

Pozorovatelé slyšeli dopad toho rána, ale nenapadlo je zkontrolovat prostor za terčem, jestli dřevo nebylo proraženo naskrz. Zásah dopadl těsně pod příčku, takže byl z palebné čáry naprosto neviditelný. Plachý tento skrytý zásah objevil až později při demontáži terče. Při zpětném zhlédnutí videa našel přesný okamžik, kdy pozorovatelé hlásili zásah.

„Vidím prach zvedající se ze strany, přesně za terčem, a z úhlu je jasné, že projektil nemohl cíl přestřelit,“ poznamenal Plachý. „Kamera namířená přímo na terč dopad do prachu nezaznamenala, protože to bylo přesně kolmo přímo za terčem. Prostě klasické Murphyho zákony: pokud se něco může pokazit, ať je to sebeneméně pravděpodobné, stane se to. :-D“

Když se terč dostal zpět k němu domů, nemohl tomu uvěřit. „Když jsem doma viděl tu díru v terči, říkal jsem si: ‚Ne, to se nestalo.‘ Začal jsem rovnat plechovky a ta díra se naprosto perfektně kryla. Ano, stalo se to.“

Navzdory frustraci ze skrytého prvního zásahu se vytrvalost týmu vyplatila. Poté, co udrželi masivní korekci náměru 249 mRad a provedli několik korekcí na vítr, další výstřel přinesl jiný signál – zřetelný zvuk nárazu a vizuální potvrzení na sestavě. Tým se přesunul blíž k ověření a plechovka nesla jasné stopy zásahu.

„Nakonec jsem ale byl rád, že jsme dál stříleli a dosáhli druhého zásahu – tentokrát jasně viditelného – a to i ze vzdálenosti 2 km,“ uzavřel Plachý. Historie byla přepsána.

Proč na tom záleží

Tohle nebyla hrubá síla. 100gr střela letící rychlostí 284 m/s neodpouští na 2 kilometrech žádné chyby. Tohle bylo o čtení větru, trpělivosti a provedení. Ať už jde o palné zbraně se středovým zápalem nebo vzduchovky, posouvání limitů rozšiřuje to, co všichni považujeme za možné. Od jedné komunity posouvačů hranic ke druhé: zasloužený respekt.
